Kirtland Air Force Base

Kirtland is an Air Force Base situated in the proximity of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is home to the 377th Air Base Wing, because of which the base is the third largest installation of this kind in the U.S.A. It has a total area of 209 km2 and the demographics are of 23,000 people. Moreover, it has no less than 4,200 active duty personnel.

Kirtland AFB was built in 1942 and is named after Colonel Roy C. Kirtland, one of the oldest pilots in the U.S. Air Force. Kirtland has been a very important base during World War II, basically because of its B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 and B-29 bombers. Nowadays it is commanded by Colonel Robert E. Suminsby Jr. and it has the outstanding CV-22 Osprey, a truly remarkable aircraft.

The housing facilities are probably the best around, as you will have the possibility to choose whether you want to stay at the base or off the base during your employment service at Kirtland. It also has a lot of attractions around, apart from the interesting scenery of New Mexico. Generally-speaking, the sport facilities are at their best. The base's logo features a lion’s cranium, the Earth and an arrow. These are symbols for wisdom, global thinking and going straight to the target.

Bearing in mind the fact that the base is also home to Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Defense Nuclear Weapon's School, the primary mission of the base is to "provide nuclear weaponry and train in the fields of air combat bombing", according to the present-day Commander. Kirtland has recently received press on the occasion of a rescue mission for a lost medical aircraft in San Juan Mountains.
